Paying for private school in St. Pete, one layer at a time

Families in Pinellas rarely pay private tuition from one source. Here is the order most of them follow, from the state award down to the school's own aid.

Last verified: October 2026

What should a Pinellas family apply for first?

The state award: the Private School Scholarship ($8,643 K-3, $8,059 4-8, $7,868 9-12 in 2026-27), or FES-UA if the child has a qualifying diagnosis.

Everything else is sized against what's left once that award is applied, so it comes first.

What comes after the state award?

The school's own help: income-based aid, sibling pricing, church-member or parishioner rates and payment plans.

Catholic families can ask about the diocesan and school assistance the Diocese of St. Petersburg describes.

Are there other sources worth knowing?

Yes: the Edu Fund partner scholarship (only at participating schools), the federal tax-credit scholarships beginning in 2027 and, for students in grades 6-12, dual enrollment at St. Petersburg College, which lists no tuition on its campuses for eligible Pinellas students.

For younger children, VPK and School Readiness cut costs before kindergarten.

How do I see my own family's stack?

Take the two-minute funding check; an advisor matches your child's grade, area and school type to each source that applies.

There is no cost and no obligation.
