How a Pinellas congregation can open a funded school

A church with classrooms, a hall and outdoor space already has much of what a small school needs; Florida's scholarships can supply the operating budget. Here is how the model works in Pinellas.

Which format should a new church school start with?

A common first step is a part-week program, two or three days on campus, paid from families' PEP accounts, with more days added as enrollment grows. A five-day school enrolls students on the Private School Scholarship instead. Instruction can come from the church's own teachers, a purchased curriculum or an online program at the center of the day, such as American Faith Academy (AmFaith), one Christian option some congregations review.

What revenue does the Pinellas award represent?

At the 2026-27 Pinellas K-3 award of $8,643, ten funded students represent about $86,430 a year before any family payment. A hybrid priced below the award leaves room in each family's account for books and tutoring.

What does the state require?

A yearly registration survey filed with the state education department, background screening for staff, health and fire inspections, attendance records, registration with a scholarship funding organization, and annual norm-referenced testing for scholarship students.
